My kids love to hear stories, ones we make up (especially if they are the main characters in the story) and also stories about our growing up (mainly the ones where we got in trouble). Sometimes I am out of creative ideas for stories, so we decided to cut out pictures from magazines and use the pictures to tell stories. It is a bonus because the kids practice their cutting skills, story telling skills, and I am presented with a fresh idea for a story! Both kids are getting very good at it. As expected, Ayla tells long drawn out stories, while Isaiah’s are short and sweet with not much plot. He prefers to hear the stories. Here is how it worked. We each picked a magazine, cut out five pictures and put them into a basket (you could also use a binder or hole punch them on a ring for easier access like in the car). We went around our circle and drew out a picture and made up a story to go with it. It is fun to see all the ideas they com up with!
