Visiting the Dentist

Going to the dentist is a big step for kids.  Our kids have each gone twice now and, thankfully, have had great experiences.  One way to get kids ready is to play going to the dentist.  Ours was simple.  We took a piece of paper towel and two clips to use as the bib, had the patient lay on the couch, had a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss to use.  We took turns being the patient and asking each questions.  Some of them included:  Have you been to the dentist?  Do you like to brush your teeth?  Do you floss your teeth?  Do you eat lots of candy?  What kind of toothpaste do you want, bubble gum or cotton candy?  We also had fun reading lots of books about going to the dentist.  We talked a lot about opening our mouth and the loud noise the toothbrush makes. Hopefully doing these things will make it easier for your child the next time at the dentist.
