Bringing Nehemiah to Life
I am in charge of the children’s ministry at our church and we are studying Nehemiah. I love making Bible stories real for kids. Yesterday our lesson was about rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem in the second half of chapter two and three. We decided to have the kids build their own wall with old boxes. We then talked about what was good/hard about this project and compared it to Nehemiah.
* The kids said, “We ran out of boxes!” Maybe that happened to Nehemiah too.
* They had to have a leader to help guide the process
*People got frustrated, with others not listening.
*They had to make it strong to keep enemies out.
We had a great discussion and I think the kids really got it. For their snack I gave them “building materials” like stick pretzels, marshmallows, raisins, etc. The kids were super creative with both building projects creating moats and scary monsters to keep out enemies and making one of the boxes into a place to spy. I love it!
