Thanks-Giving Day 24

Thanks: Things to look forward to: My life is truly blessed.  I have had so many great things in my life, but I am thankful that I know there are even more great things to look forward to.

Giving: Today we are serving Thanksgiving dinner to people in our church and the church neighborhood.  We get the chance to sit and eat with them, serve them dinner and just be a blessing to them.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Indoor Hopscotch

The kids and I decided to make an inside hopscotch today as part of our obstacle course.  I had some extra fabric around and figured this was a great way to put it to use.  We cut squares out of the fabric, added the numbers with permanent markers, and taped them to our rug.  It was cold this morning, so this was a great way to get our energy out!

Thanks-Giving Day 23

Thanks: Bible.  I am so thankful for God’s word and the ability He has in using it to change, convict, guide, encourage and grow us in our relationship with Him.  The last few months I’ve been more disciplined in reading the Bible each morning before my kids awake and I so thankful that I have.  I feel filled and ready to give.

Giving:  Today I am giving my kids (and myself) the gift of time together.  Since they are off of school, we have the whole morning to be together.  I have planned some fun activities and look forward to being with them throughout the day today.

Thanks-Giving Day 22

Thanks: Real people.  I am not a huge fan of small talk.  As I’ve gotten older, and wiser, I really value the real conversations I’ve had with people.  People sharing their brokenness and me being vulnerable with them as well.  I am thankful for all the honest, real, raw people that are in my life.

Giving:  Giving back to my husband in lots of ways today!  When he comes home our house will be clean and a nice dinner will be served.  I will also be encouraging him today.

Thanks-Giving Day 21

Thanks: I am thankful for the trials I have gone through in my life.  These things have made me stronger, closer to Christ, and have shaped me into who I am.  It is true what it says in James 1:2, “Consider it pure joy when you face trials of many kinds.” It deepens our faith and God can use it to bring us closer to Him.

Giving: Today through church world service (www.cwsbestgifts.org) we are giving a goat and chicks to people across the world.  My kids and I had fun looking through the magazine and talking about why people would actually be very happy to receive these gifts.

Thanks-Giving Day 20

Thanks: Music.  I love good music (some would question what I think is good…).  Being able to crank up the music when there are no kids in my car or blasting it with them in praise of our Savior.  I love being able to listen to music.

Giving: I am in charge of the children’s ministry at our church.  Today I am giving the wonderful people that work with the children a note of appreciation and encouragement for all they do.  Too often little is said about how much they do, I want them to know they are valued.

Thanks-Giving Day 19

We only have a few days left in our Thanks-Giving project.  Here are our thoughts for today.

Thanks:People who have influenced me: I have had many people besides my parents make me who I am today.  I praise God for the friends, teachers, coaches, youth leaders, etc. that helped me become who I am.  I pray my kids can have similar role models in their lives.

Giving: Support to my husband’s cousin in his basketball game today.  Our family is going to support and cheer for him!

Family Fun Friday-Turkey

With Thanksgiving around the corner we decided to do some turkey activities together tonight.  Here is a look at what we will be up to!

Make a turkey out of Oreos, icing, candy corn, and leftover Halloween candy.  We did this last year and it was super fun, with Oreos and candy how can the kids not love it?

I printed off a stencil of a turkey and the kids are going to color them and then we will glue our family pictures on the heads.

Read turkey books, our favorites are Plump and Perky Turkey by Teresa Bateman and 10 Fat Turkeys by Tony Johnson.

Turkey Hunt: Like an egg hunt but with Turkeys!

Play the game, I’m going to have Thanksgiving dinner, and I will eat…. (add one more item each time and try to remember them)

20 Questions with Thanksgiving things

Have a race to see who can decorate their football like a turkey

We are making turkeys out of coffee filters (the feathers) and then attaching the body to them.

Thanks-Giving Day 18

Thanks:  Good food; from Sushi to ice cream and everything in between.  I love being able to taste and enjoy a good meal or sweet treat.  What a blessing to have so many wonderful foods to enjoy!

Giving: Today I am giving my kids the gift of volunteering in their classrooms!  I love being able to help out their teachers and see what they are learning.  Happy Friday!

Thanksgiving Book

My kids are making a book about the things they are thankful for as a way to remind them of the many blessings we have.  Each day they draw a picture and write what they are thankful for.  The kids are really into it and it is neat to see what they are thinking about.  This will be fun to set out each year at Thanksgiving and see how their drawings and writings and thoughts change.  I think it will be our new tradition.

My daughters first entry was turkey, and my son wrote and drew about the Wii.
