From My Family to Yours

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Songs Countdown Day 28- Born in Bethlehem

Third Day helped me discover this song.  I cannot believe our countdown has come to an end!  Thanks for sharing in this with me, my family has truly been blessed, I hope yours has as well!

Baby Jesus, born in a stable, humble Savior’s birth.
You left your throne in Heaven above, to live here on the Earth.

Baby Jesus, lying in a manger, crying for the world.
The Angels told the Shepherds of the Good News for us all.

Halleluiah, the King is here, given for all men.
For today the Holy Son of God, is born in Bethlehem.

Come now Sinners and you Saints, all peasants and all Kings.
And bow before the Earth’s Redeemer, let all voices sing.

Halleluiah, the King is here, given for all men.
For today the Holy Son of God, is born in Bethlehem.

Why does Jesus matter?  That is something we’ve talked about a lot this Christmas.  The whole reason we celebrate is Jesus but why is that special?  He came to save us.  Sinners and Saints, Peasants and Kings.  Praise God for sending Him to save us!

Our family fun activity for today is a tasting party at our church before the service. We will be bringing goodies to taste and tasting many ourselves!  Yum!

Christmas Songs Countdown Day 27- Born is the King (It’s Christmas)

Some friends of mine recently introduced this song, it is one of my new favorites!
Born unto us this day a Savior
Gifted from heaven to a manger
The hope of the world
A light for all mankind
All of the earth rejoice
It’s Christmas time
Chorus
So lift up your voice and sing out His praise
It’s Christmas
Born is the King, rejoice in the day
It’s Christmas
Make a joyful sound
It’s Christmas
Let His praise resound
It’s Christmas
Verse 2
Goodwill to all the earth
And peace divine
All of the earth rejoice
It’s Christmas time
It’s Christmas time
Today we will be singing and dancing along with the music, and worshiping our King!
Our family fun activity for today is making snow globe place cards for our family for Christmas dinner!  I got the idea from http://lets-explore.net/blog/2011/12/snow-globe-place-cards/.  I cannot believe we are so close to Christmas!

Christmas Songs Countdown Day 26- Come Thou Long Expected Jesus

I recently rediscovered this song!  Love it.  Here are the lyrics.

Come, Thou long expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel’s Strength and Consolation,
Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear Desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a King,
Born to reign in us forever,
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all sufficient merit,
Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

We will talk through the lyrics.  What does it mean to expect and wait on something.  What are some things we’ve had to wait on?  Is it hard or easy to wait?  We are also going to use our nativity box we have, What Jesus Wants for Christmas (available at Amazon).  This is a great tool.  We read the story and open a box one at a time throughout the story.

Our fun activity for today is going to the Nutcracker!  I am taking my daughter to see her first ballet today and the boys are going to have man time!

Christmas Songs Countdown Day 25- Hallelujah Chorus

This song takes me back to high school since we’d sing this each Christmas.  Here are the lyrics.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

The kingdom of this world
Is become the kingdom of our Lord,
And of His Christ, and of His Christ;
And He shall reign for ever and ever,
For ever and ever, forever and ever,

King of kings, and Lord of lords,
King of kings, and Lord of lords,
And Lord of lords,
And He shall reign,
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings, forever and ever,
And Lord of lords,
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! and Lord of lords!
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! and Lord of lords!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!

This is such a fun song.  Hallelujah means “praise Jah” a form of Jehovah, the most high God.  We are going to sing along with it several times to really learn it.  We are also going to make crowns since He is King of Kings!

Our family fun activity is delivering cookies and candy to our neighbors.  I love involving my kids in this!

Christmas Songs Countdown Day 24- I heard the Bells on Christmas Day

Our new favorite thing to do with these songs we are learning is to hum them and have someone else in the family guess which song we are humming!  We have been doing this at dinner, in the car, on a walk to school, etc.  I love it!  Here are the lyrics for this song.

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

We are going to make bells out of soup cans and old flower pots…not sure how this will go, but I’ll post pictures!  We will play our bells as we sing and praise Jesus.

Our family fun activity is making peppermint and gingerbread playdoh.  These are festive and fun to have to play with during our break.

Christmas Songs Countdown Day 23- Angels from the Relms of Glory

Here are the lyrics

Angels from the realms of glory,
Wing your flight o’er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation’s story,
Now proclaim Messiah’s birth:
Come and worship,
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!

Today we will spend time worshiping Jesus.  We are going to make time when we wake up to start our day by praising Him, just like the song talks about.

Our family fun activity is decorating sugar cookies with our some good family friends of ours.  Yum!

Christmas Songs Countdown Day 22- Good Christian Men Rejoice

I cannot believe how close we are to Christmas!  This has been such a blessing to my family to learn all these.  Here are the lyrics to today’s song.

Good Christian men rejoice
With heart and soul and voice!
Give ye heed to what we say
News! News!
Jesus Christ is born today!
Ox and ass before Him bow
And He is in the manger now
Christ is born today!
Christ is born today!

Today we are going to act out the Christmas story again using props from our stuffed animals, a star, dress up, etc. We will also talk about what it means to rejoice and why Jesus is such a big deal.

Our family fun activity is watching a Christmas movie together!

Christmas Songs Countdown Day 21- For Unto us a Child is Born

Here are the lyrics if you want to learn them too!

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and
the government
shall be upon His shoulder; and his name shall be called
Wonderful,
Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the
Prince of Peace.

Last year our Christmas theme was names/attribute of Jesus so this will be a great way to talk again about all the names there are for Him!  We will talk about nicknames we have for people in our family too.

Our family fun activity is making Christmas treats with Daddy!

Homemade Gift Ideas

SPOILER!!!  Please do not read if you are family!!  You might spoil your surprise!

This year we are making several gifts for our family and friends.  Here are some of our favorites.

*Question Jar: This is something we have done at our family dinner table and really have been enjoying.  I made each of my friends their own question jar filled with questions I got from this blog http://keepinglifecreative.com/freebie/12-days-of-christmas-question-jar/

* We made ornaments for the CBS leaders, awana teachers, and to attach to the some other gifts.  I bought clear ornaments at Michaels craft store for less than $1.  We opened the top and poured in our colors and swirled it around.

I think they turned out lovely!

* We also made the teachers bags for carrying around all their teaching supplies.  The kids wrote their teachers names on them and then decorated them with fabric markers.  We filled them with some of the teachers favorite things!

* For my husband we are making a sign that says LOVE with my kids pictures of their bodies!  We are spelling out this and then framing it for him.
